Dear Journal ... It's almost Christmas.

It’s been a trying week but I think I’ve managed to get through it. I started job hunting again to see what is out there. With COVID numbers going up and a possible 2nd lockdown on the way, I definitely do not want to be in the same predicament before where I was furloughed. Granted for the time being my job is work from home but people were laid off and furloughed due to not having the money to pay us. I’m hoping that doesn’t happen again.

When I was diagnosed I was extremely devastated honestly. I did not know what to expect. One of the most visible symptoms I have with my lupus is hair loss. I noticed I was losing more and more hair every day. Just imagine after taking out a protective style like box braids, all the hair that comes out. Imagine that amount every day! Not after 2 or 3 months but every day. I have tried biotin pills, multivitamins, prenatal, hair growth oils, and masks but nothing seems to be working to reverse it. Thankfully what I still have on my head is still healthy and somewhat strong but the patches are still an issue. I know at this point if nothing topical works, then I need to really focus on my internal issues.

I finally was able to talk with my PCP and she stated that my kidney ultrasound results came back normal but she is still concerned about protein in my urine. She referred me to start seeing a nephrologist. Since that update, I started taking a thyroid supplement that has selenium which will hopefully help with my fatigue and hair loss. MY fatigue has been kicking my butt and although I believe my thyroid is okay, I just want to make sure it’s getting as much support as possible and I read somewhere that selenium can help with hair loss. My scalp is sometimes so sore to touch to the point I do not want to even bother with my hair. My appetite can be horrible at times too. There would be times where I do not eat much for days but I always try to stay hydrated though. This can become very frustrating at times but I push through.

I was able to go to a small friendmas party which was pretty fun but I was being greedy and ate pizza and felt the repercussions of that the next day. LOL, For the most part, this week, I just tried to relax and take it easy. The first day of winter was 35° outside so I did not go outside because I already knew my joints would be stiff as a board.

How was your week and did you celebrate with friends this holiday season? Let me know in the comments.
